What is IVIS?

International Veterinary Information Service (IVIS) is a not-for-profit organization established to provide information to veterinarians, veterinary students, technicians and animal health professionals worldwide using Internet technology. The IVIS website provides free access to original, up-to-date publications organized in electronic books each edited by highly qualified editors, proceedings of veterinary meetings, journals, short courses, an international calendar of veterinary events and much more, with the help of private and corporate sponsors.

This rather dry description of IVIS doesn't begin to reveal the incredible wealth of veterinary information from respected and authoritative sources available at no charge to IVIS subscribers.

From it's beginnings in 1998, to a readership of 3,000 in December of 2000, IVIS has expanded and now has over 200,000 subscribers and offerings ranging from the proceedings of major equine and other large animal veterinary conferences to research on feline dermatology, from the authoritative text Veterinary Care of Donkeys to research articles on avian nutrition and care.

So, you're wondering, why should I join and support IVIS?
  • Joining IVIS is free
  • Open web access to Proceedings from AAEP and other major international equine veterinary conferences
  • Open web access to an extensive array of veterinary textbooks and articles
  • Searchable access to all documents on the IVIS website
  • Listings of distance and online educational opportunities
and much more.

For example, a search in IVIS for "HYPP" brings up more than thirty separate research-based articles and chapters related to HYperkalemic Periodic Paralysis.  What you won't get is the thousands of unsubstantiated "opinion" comments and "magic potion" advertising hits that the average internet search brings up.

If you've ever wanted to confirm or discover information about your animals, consider IVIS as your "go to" place.
